Skateboard Art

First Try would hire artists to do paintings for some of the skateboard graphics. My job was to edit them to fix areas, add new elements, and fill in areas to get them to the proper dimensions. This needed to be done while keeping the artists original style and texture.

The graphic needed to be stitched back together, and then extended to fill in the areas needed to get it to the proper skateboard dimensions. There were minor edits like the star tattoo changing position and turned to black, the addition of a sidewalk crack, and small touch ups. The major edits were creating the torso and arms, using pieces of the legs and skirt to keep the painting texture and style.

This graphic went through the same initial steps, but had far more edits to the design. The painting was separated into individual elements and rearranged. Each island shape was custom made to look more like a real map while keeping the artist's line style the same. There were many small edits as well, including color correction, changing the blood splatters, and fixing the star logo.

Wheel Graphics

First Try wanted to expand their offerings into skateboard wheels and needed a simple design for the outside of the wheels. We came up with a design that utilized one black wheel, while the others were white. This helped them stand out and only part of the graphic would be visible on the black wheel unless viewed at an angle to see the matte black print on the glossy black wheel.

Sticker Designs

Stickers are a common product for skateboard companies and are used to be placed on objects or the board itself. I created 2 different sticker designs for First Try. Each one is designed around the shape of the sticker itself, one being square and one being circular.

Logo Graphic

In addition to the artist board graphics, there were cheaper boards with simple First Try branding. I created two versions, using their branding colors in a different way for each one.
